Just recently, Wish-Converging Dragon (along with Arriving Miracle) was released in Dawn of Majesty. As intended support towards the summoning of Majestic Star Dragon, this humble shrimp can accelerate the Synchro Summoning of Majestic Synchros. But beneath its miniature exterior, several combo enthusiasts have probed into future applications for the card!
Editor note: The beta card name has been recently changed to Thought-Converging Dragon
In this article, I will briefly cover parts of the many miracles this tiny tutor can produce. What sort of miracles could happen?
Another Chance of Hope
Wish-Converging Dragon
Dragon/Tuner/Effect
Level 1 ATK/ 0 DEF/ 0
- You can only Special Summon "Wish-Converging Dragon(s)" once per turn. Cannot be used as Synchro Material, except for the Synchro Summon of a "Majestic" monster.
- This card's name becomes "Majestic Dragon" while on the field or in the GY.
- When you draw this card: You can reveal it; Special Summon it from your hand, then, if you control a Level 8 or higher Dragon Synchro Monster, you can Special Summon 1 Level 1 Dragon monster from your Deck.
At first glance, this is just an upgrade of Majestic Dragon, so that the specific summoning condition of Majestic Synchro Monsters can be easily fulfilled. This card also synergizes with Arriving Miracle, so let us take a look at that too.
Arriving Miracle
Continuous Spell
- When this card is activated: Place 1 Level 1 Dragon monster from your hand or Deck on top of your Deck.
- Neither player can return "Stardust Dragon" or Synchro Monsters that specifically list that card in their text from the field to the Extra Deck.
- If a Synchro Monster(s) is Special Summoned: You can apply 1 of the following effects. You cannot apply that same effect of "Arriving Miracle" for the rest of this turn.
- Draw 1 card.
- Special Summon 1 Tuner from your hand.
Before performing a Synchro Summon into either Stardust Dragon or Red Dragon Archfiend, you should activate Arriving Miracle, adding Wish-Converging Dragon to the top of your deck. Upon Synchro Summoning, Arriving Miracle will draw into Wish-Converging Dragon, which will summon itself and another Dragon, so you can easily Synchro Summon any Majestic monster you would prefer.
Because Wish-Converging Dragon does not specify which Level 1 Dragon you should summon, the possibilities start to widen a lot more.
A Dragon Monster, which summons another Dragon monster? That sounds like a recipe for synchro summoning indeed. Let us take a look at what we can summon from this Tuner.
To Wish Upon...
This is a simple list of the most prominent Level 1 Dragons that benefits from Wish-Converging Dragon's tutor effect. It is worth nothing that Wish-Converging Dragon does not negate the summoned monster's effect.
Stardust Xiaolong
The original fodder used to summon Majestic Star Dragon in the anime! Stardust Xiaolong has never ever seen any use outside of nostalgic Anime themed decks. Its effect allows the player to summon up to 3 copies of it upon Stardust Dragon's arrival, along with a pesky protection effect. If you are feeling a bit brave, you can opt to use this card as Wish-Converging Dragon's partner. Otherwise, I can only see use for this card as constant fodder for specific niches.
But hey, if Yusei Fudo could make bad card works, then you probably can too!
Omni Dragon Brotaur
After the ban of Guardragon Agarpain, and Guardragon Elpy in the OCG, Brotaur has only seen use in Dragon Link. However, the inclusion of Wish-Converging Dragon has allowed Brotaur to be consistently special summoned, allowing it to activate its tutoring effect. Brotaur can retrieve Black Dragon Collapserpent or Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to extend, or White Dragon Wyverburster. Brotaur's tutor may be limited to the existing types on the field, but by summoning Brotaur through Wish-Converging Dragon, you should already have at least 3 flavors to pick from!
Being able to easily summon Brotaur allows for decks to experiment with this interaction, and I will provide some examples.
Synchron Combo by Axel96 - Brotaur Searches Doppelwarrior
Synchron Meme Combo by Moonlight OCG - Brotaur Searches The Wicked Avatar
Black Metal Dragon
Black Metal Dragon always means Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon, and now we have an additional way to access it! Playing Wish-Converging Dragon in Dragon Link is not such a bad idea. The deck often Synchro Summons, and all forms of Dragons are welcome. The guarantee of having Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon means you can play through even more layers of interruption to fulfill the best boards always.
As a side note, you can also summon The Black Stone of Legend.
OCG Dragon Link Combo by Kittis Home
Other Drakes and Whelps
There is a lengthy list of eligible candidates for Wish-Converging Dragon's company, like Dragon Buster Destruction Sword and Samsara Dragon, but I could not find enough examples to list them. However, I believe over time, more of these smaller Dragons will see eventual usage along with Wish-Converging Dragon, so do not discount them!
How Realistic is this Engine?
In order to incorporate Wish-Converging Dragon, the player must insert at least 1 copy of Wish-Converging Dragon, Arriving Miracle and the last Dragon. Arriving Miracle can be searched by Stardust Synchron, and is easy to summon.
Wish-Converging Dragon would be useless outside of Arriving Miracle AND being drawn, while Arriving Miracle could at least draw 1 card. However, you may use Wish-Converging Dragon as Link Material for Striker Dragon, and could be discarded off Chaos Space.
Aalthough it could be undesirable at times, the benefits of playing this engine could outweigh the negatives. This engine could see play in other Synchro decks, as this engine does not even restrict the player to anything!
Conclusion
Initially, I wanted to do a simple run down of all the support Stardust has received from Dawn of Majesty. Wish-Converging Dragon has certainly caught my eye as a Dragon Tutor, while still serving the original purpose of summoning a Majestic Synchro Dragon. Will it be the key to Synchro's revival, or will it just be another cog in the gears of Dragon Link? No matter what, I believe it is too early to avoid this card yet. With so much untapped potential, I am ready for any miracle from these cards!
