MD got some cards from Battle of Chaos a while back such as the impressive D/D/D wave with D/D/D Deviser King Deus Machinex and D/D Gryphon giving the deck some much-needed help. Dinomorphia also introduced themselves but will have to wait until Dinomorphia Rexterm to truly shine. Guardian Chimera is an absolute unit that's just waiting for the Branded support to come to the game.Despite that, there are still a couple of important ones that haven't been brought over yet from this Core Booster. Let's quickly go over some of them, what they do, and their potential impact on the format. Without further ado, let's take a step BACH into the realm of Master Duel! Special thanks to OzoneTCG, EXFFicult, and Wanderlust for helping out with this article! Honorable mentions to Sales Ban and Onibimaru Soul Sweeper as funky techs that may come up in the future.
Floowandering Aid
Floowandereeze is arguably in a stronger position over in Master Duel compared to the TCG, as the BO1 format makes it a lot more difficult to answer. Not only that, it's a deck that's immune to Maxx "C" and can use Dimension Shifter to its heart's content! However, the recent banlist has reduced its consistency by a significant amount as Pot of Prosperity became Limited. While the deck can still replace the other two pots with Pot of Extravagance for decent results, the effects can still be felt on a duel-to-duel basis.
Not to worry though, as Floowandereeze and the Advent of Adventure is just looming around the corner! This versatile Quick-Play does wonders for the deck and then some! Having to "give up" a Winged Beast to search may seem detrimental, but this gives you a lot of room to outplay your opponent and beat certain cards that would otherwise end you. Notably, banishing the monster on the field for cost allows Floowandereeze & Robina and Floowandereeze & Eglen to dodge the likes of Effect Veiler and Infinite Impermanence! Book of Moon is used to fulfill a similar role, but Advent is a lot better at it due to giving you a search to boot. There's nothing wrong with running both Quick-Plays though, but Book becomes less mandatory and more user preference with Advent in your arsenal. From there, you get to add any Floo monster you may need (such as Floowandereeze & Empen when Eglen gets stopped by Ash Blossom), or their extremely powerful Field Spell, Floowandereeze and the Magnificent Map. Giving you 500 LP is a nice bonus, making it slightly more difficult to get OTK'd right off the bat as the deck can grind surprisingly well. Last but not the least, Advent lets you play even in suboptimal openers and gives you better ways to make use of Floowandereeze & Toccan. A staple 3-of in the deck for sure.
The Dharc Knight
Dharc is a staple in competitive play and is the last of the Link Charmers to be released in all formats. Similar to the others, he's able to target and revive any DARK monster in the opponent's GY to a zone he points to. Considering that the most played attribute is DARK at the moment, there's a wide pool of options to choose from and it's incredibly easy to summon. Its best application is to summon the Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer from the opponent's GY! This cuts them off the recursive threat all while giving you a nice Quick Effect pop to start picking apart their board. Just make sure not to destroy the DPE, as it'll come back to them later.
Aside from that, its other main use is to help Link climb much faster, as any two monsters with one being a DARK can get to this Link-2, revive and head on over to either Knightmare Unicorn or Selene, Queen of the Master Magicians. The latter pairs well with Accesscode Talker to finish off games. Don't underestimate that search effect either, as it can be clutch during grindy duels. All in all, probably one of the best modern Link monsters to grace the game.
Mini Chaos Ruler
The Zombie Vampire is another superstar in Battle of Chaos which can fit quite well into a multitude of decks once Noh-P.U.N.K. Deer Note is added into the game. Deer can revive Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune after you make Chaos Ruler, the Chaotic Magical Dragon, naturally leading to this Xyz monster. If you revive a monster that has a level with Dharc, you can treat it as a Level 8 monster and get TZV online! So it may not be as strong on release, but it's a good card to keep in mind. Dragon Link can make good use of it as it helps double up on mills with Chaos Ruler. Additionally, 8-axis may be able to get some mileage out of it, as it helps push for damage all while potentially milling you another 8 like Gizmek Orochi, the Serpentron Sky Slasher, or get a Sekka's Light into the GY.
Swordsoul's Ace in the Hole
Swordsoul Sinister Sovereign - Qixing Longyuan was a massive powerhouse last format over in the TCG, and is poised to tear things up over in Master Duel as well! MD's Swordsoul is a lot stronger too, as they have tools like Archnemeses Protos and Denglong, First of the Yang Zing at their disposal. Deskbot 001 and Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon are also well and alive. Adventurer Tenyi GS can potentially use his talents too, as Tenyi Spirit - Ashuna and Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda act as the non-Tuner Wyrms.QLY has three substantial effects, all of which can help take over the game and put the opponent in a difficult spot. The double burn + banish combo is his main claim to fame, as it happens to line up well against most decks in a given format. Notably, the S/T banish helps ward off Adventurer cards and Field Spells. You can even banish Polymerization to make it so Guardian Chimera can be dealt with via Swordsoul Grandmaster - Chixiao or Infinite Impermanence. 3600 burn is nothing to scoff at either and can even lead to some nasty OTKs. Lastly, the draw effect is the icing on top and can be paired with Mo Ye, or Formula Synchron draws to gather more Hand Traps. Since you'll be locked into Wyrms more often than not if you went for Ashuna plays, QLY becomes the natural partner to go alongside Chixiao in the endboard. Keep an eye out for this one!
The Enabler
Last but not the least, we have possibly the most hyped card of the set: Illusion of Chaos! This Ritual monster helps Dark Magician by a huge amount, giving you consistent access to either Magician's Rod or Magicians' Souls depending on what's missing in your hand. That's all well and good, but the real ticket is how splashable IOC is. The way it searches is quite unique, as you can add Souls and then put any card from your hand to the top of the Deck. Combo piles can simply put the ritual back on top and then bring out Souls from the hand by sending the IOC! The strength of Souls is not to be taken lightly. It's an extender that can also draw you cards by sending Spells and Traps to the GY. Adventurer just so happens to generate a lot of those for free just for using their cards, so you can very much end up with a free draw or two! If they negate Souls, that's one less interruption you have to worry about, so it's a win-win. Did I mention that you can turn it into either Predaplant Verte Anaconda or Artifact Dagda after? Adventurer Tenyi and Adventurer Prank-Kids are set to capitalize on this package, as they help get you to DPE after you eat several HTs, and/or set up lockout combos with Artifact Scythe. Enforcer Dogmatika Invoked is also a possibility, despite their hits. Special mention has to go to SPYRAL, which loves the prospect of having extra Souls in their grasp + a way to return bricks back into the Deck. Quite the welcome addition to the deck. One major thing to consider is how many slots you want to dedicate to this engine. A lot of it boils down to user preference and deck space. For example, some choose to run the minimal 1 Souls 1 Illusion, others go for 2/2, and there's also Diviner of the Herald and Preparation of Rites if you're opting for a larger Souls package. Chaos Ruler can also add back either provided only 1 of them has been sent to the GY by its effect. Lastly, its stats are convenient for a couple of notable Link monsters, such as Relinquished Anima for going second as well as Dharc and Selene.
