After Eva got banned last banlist, people still find ways to keep Drytron relevant in the Meta. Whether it's resorting to Scythe Lock Turbo or playing Megalith or both. This is a really good thing. I always loved Drytron as a Deck, it's a cool concept and has lots of potential; only to be disappointed by how people abused it to make Ultimateness 4 Negates Turbo every single game. I was surprised and sad when I realized that Drytron boss monster is actually a "balanced" disco ball that says NO to everything your opponent do, and all it takes is a single Drytron monster to Ritual Summon it. Now I can finally see Drytron as a real Combo Deck that abuses generic Boss Monsters (like every Combo Deck does). So anyway, enough with this dilly-dally, now here's the Explanation of the Deck
Combo
Drytron is a very versatile Deck, so your Combo really depends on your opening hand. But here's a 2 card Combo anyways (Nova + Zeta hand):
- Activate Nova -> Summon Alpha -> Link Alpha into Linkuriboh
- Activate Alpha in GY Tributing Zeta in hand -> Search Benten
- Zeta Tribute Benten -> Search Meteonis + Diviner
- Overlay into Mu Beta Fafnir -> Send Gamma
- Normal Diviner -> Send Arc Light -> Search Phul
- Meteonis Ritual Phul -> Phul add back Benten
- Phul Tribute Benten to Special Ophiel -> Search Bethor and Idaten
- Synchro Diviner and Ophiel into Baronne
- Gamma Tribute Idaten -> Special a Drytron from GY
- Meteonis add back to hand -> Link Linkuriboh and 1000 ATK Drytron into Verte
- Ritual Idaten (detach from Mu Beta Fafnir) -> add back Meteonis
Now there are multiple options that you can do:
- Option 1: Link into 4 material Apollousa (Least optimal)
- Option 2: Overlay Phul and Idaten into Beatrice -> Detach Idaten to Send Snow -> Link Mu Beta Fafnir and a Drytron into Masquerena. (You can Masquerena into Apollousa during your opponent's turn after Snow Summon itself from GY). If you happen to have Natasha in hand or GY, Ritual Summon Natasha first to enable its GY effect next turn
- Option 3: Overlay Phul and Idaten into Beatrice -> Detach Idaten to Send Delta -> Delta Tribute Bethor -> Draw 1 -> Link 2 Drytrons into Masquerena. (You can Masquerena into Apollousa during your opponent's turn after Beatrice Send Snow)
The difference between Option 2 and 3 is that Option 2 guarantees you Snow while Option 3 can get Dropleted, while Option 1 guarantees Apollousa. Also don't forget to Verte effect because I didn't say it in the Combo Lines
There are multiple other Combos Drytron have, but I'm not gonna say it here, figure it out yourself by actually learning the Deck instead of memorizing a spreadsheet
Deck Breakdown
Main Deck:
- 3x Drytron Alpha Thuban: Best Drytron monster; prioritize Searching Benten and Natasha (if you already have Benten), Megalith comes after, and Draconids comes last
- 3x Drytron Zeta Aldhibah: Searches only 1 thing, Meteonis Drytron
- 2x Drytron Gamma Eltanin: Revive Drytron from GY, very important for Link plays. I only play 2 because Searchable with Mu Beta Fafnir
- 2x Drytron Delta Altais: Free draw 1 every turn (your turn, that is), not as good as the others but still nice to have. Also Searchable with Mu Beta Fafnir
- 1x Drytron Meteonis Draconids: Your last resort, if you ran out of Extra Deck plays, this Boss Monster will carry you through the match. 4000 ATK beatstick that cannot be targeted by MONSTER and can easily be Summoned through Skill Drain and is recyclable. Also ignores Scythe Lock
- 3x Diviner of the Herald: Send Arc Light to GY to Search any Ritual Monter/Spell and is the only Tuner you have. Even though Benten Search it, you have to play 3 for consistency + Extender if Alpha/Benten got negated
- 1x Cyber Angel Benten: Search Diviner, Idaten, and Natasha
- 1x Cyber Angel Idaten: Add back your Meteonis from GY on Summon, good for Link fodder and Beatrice Material (Can boost Draconids too)
- 1x Cyber Angel Natasha: Searchable Change of Heart? The only downside is that you have to Ritual it first before stealing anything
- 2x Megalith Phul: Add back Benten from GY on Summon and can Ritual a Megalith from Deck
- 1x Megalith Ophiel: Search Bethor, also it's Lvl 4
- 1x Megalith Bethor: Who needs Zeus when you have this guy? You have 6 Ritual Monsters with different names (7 including this guy), which are easy to search. You can also Ritual it during your opponent's turn with Phul
- 1x Fairy Tail - Snow: Searchable (with Beatrice) Book of Moon from GY and since you're playing Drytron, you can fuel the GY very easily. Also, don't Special it on your own turn unless you have to, because it contradicts with Drytron restrictions
- 1x Destiny Hero - Plasma: DPE fodder. Why not Dasher? Have you realized yet that Dasher literally can't Special anything except Celestial and Snow? (and hand traps actually). Not only that, if you use Dasher effect, you can't Special the Drytrons cause restrictions. Drytron can easily swarm the board, and Plasma can caught your opponent off guard
- 1x Destiny Hero - Celestial: DPE fodder. And hey, it's Pot of Greed!
- 3x Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring: Best handtrap. You can play Ghost Ogre instead if you want to since it's very good this format
- 3x Drytron Nova: Basically Quick Launch for Drytron
- 2x Drytron Fafnir: Search Nova and your opponent can't negate Ritual Spells. It has a 3rd effect, but nobody talks about that, it doesn't exi- (Still somewhat useful for Synchro/Xyz, just too niche). You can play 3 of this if you want (you probably should cause it's actually really good). But I prefer 2 because it cannot search anything else other than Nova, don't wanna have too many Nova in hand.
- 1x Meteonis Drytron: Your one and only Ritual Spell. Some people plays 2 to avoid it getting banished = lose, it also allows your Zeta to search twice for card advantage (good discard fodder and not once per turn btw). But 1 is enough for me because you can recycle it every turn
- 3x Cyber Emergency: RotA for Drytron
- 2x Preparation of Rites: RotA for Lvl 7 or lower Rituals. Also you can add Meteonis from GY if used at the right time
- 1x Fusion Destiny: Fusion Summon DPE. You can play 2 if you want to
- 1x Foolish Burial: Search any Drytron or Rituals (or even Snow)
- 3x Forbidden Droplet: Droplet is soooooo GOOD in Drytron. Since Drytron monsters can activate their effects in GY, you can use Droplet for almost no cost
- 1x Called by the Grave: You have to play this, Drytron is very frail to handtraps
Extra Deck:
- 2x Drytron Mu Beta Fafnir: Foolish any Drytron and gives you an extra Ritual/Link fodder while also clears up your board. Did you know that this card can negate Spell/Trap Card? Yeah, me neither. (DO NOT SUMMON WITH MORE THAN 2 MATERIALS DUE TO IMPERM AND VEILER)
- 1x Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal: Easy to Summon Foolish Burial
- 1x Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale: Can attack directly and protect itself from destruction, only used for Zeus fodder
- 1x Downerd Magician: Free material for Zeus. Don't Summon with Nightingale if you know that your opponent has a card that can pop monster (like Dogmatika Punishment or DPE for example)
- 1x Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder: WIPE THE FIELD!
- 1x Baronne De Fleur: Generic Lvl 10 Synchro Omni-Negate + Once per turn pop. Diviner (Lvl 6) + Ophiel or Diviner (Lvl 8) + 2 Drytrons can make it. (Lvl 8 from sending Benten/Idaten)
- 1x Herald of the Arc Light: Search any Ritual Monster/Spell when sent to GY. You can and should play 2 if you want. I only play 1 because I don't have the slot for the 2nd one
- 1x Destiny Hero - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer: An annoying Boss Monster that pop things and come back every turn
- 1x Linkuriboh: To send a Drytron Summoned by Nova to GY
- 1x Verte Anaconda: Search Fusion Destiny
- 1x I:P Masquerena: Unicorn on your opponent's turn or Apollousa after Verte (can't Special after Verte effect)
- 1x Knightmare Unicorn: Shuffle 1 card on the field, also the only generic Link-3 that actually does something
- 1x Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess: This lady must've really hate monster effects
- 1x Accesscode Talker: 5300 ATK go brrrr. Also pop things and your opponent can't respond to it
Side Deck:
- 3x Artifact Lancea: Lancea is better than ever this format cause most Deck banishes, especially Brave Engine, Swordsoul Tenyi, Phantom Knights, and Flundereeze (a future Meta Deck: Branded Despia also banishes pretty often)
- 3x Token Collector: Counters Auroradon, Swordsoul, and Brave Engine
- 1x Droll & Lock Bird: Droll is the bane of Combo Decks' existence (Drytron suffers from it the most). Only side 1 because I also side Crossout
- 1x Nibiru, the Primal Being: Nibiru is arguably the best handtrap ever made. But I side it for Crossout target, that's why I only play 1 ofs
- 3x Crossout Designator: Since Drytron is very frail to handtrap, you need extra protections. 1 Called by is never enough. If you get Drolled, it's mostly game over (you can still make Verte tho). This card is the reason why I side 1 Droll, 1 Nib, and 1 Imperm
- 3x Twin Twister: Backrow removal, and since Drytron can activate in GY, Twin Twister discard 1 cost doesn't exist
- 1x Infinity Impermanence: Once again, I side it solely for Crossout. If your Mu Beta Fafnir got Impermed, you're screwed. I should probably side Veiler too. But Called by can counter Veiler and Imperm is more played
Honorable Mention:
- Relinquished Anima: You can play it over Linkuriboh, but I like Linkuriboh more (Make your opponent's monster ATK 0 and can Special itself from GY)
- Elder Entity - N'tss: Sent to GY by Diviner to pop a card. You should definitely play it. But I like my Extra Deck the way it is (so no slot for it)
- Millenium-Eyes Restrict + Instant Fusion: Good Extender because Millenium-Eyes is Lvl 1 and can suck up a card (make sure you have room for it)
- Magikey Mechmusket - Batobuster + Magikey Unlocking: Searchable Counter Trap Spell/Trap negate. If you hate Dark Ruler and Droplet, or even Lightning Storm, these cards are perfect for you
Conclusions
This Deck mostly suffers from handtraps, where a single Ash or even Droll, shut down your combo and forces you to go into Verte DPE pass. But can play through disruptions pretty nicely, thanks to its consistency and Extenders. The consistency of the Deck is very high, like seriously. 10 non-Ritual Drytron monsters with 3 RotA and 3 Nova that Special a Drytron from Deck, and even Nova is Searchable with Fafnir. You also have Foolish which searches any Drytron. The Rituals are easily Searchable with Alpha, Zeta, Diviner, and Prep
Maintaining card advantage is also what Drytron's good at. After that 2 card Combo that I showed earlier, you still ends with hand neutral, 5 cards in your hand going first. The amount of searches this Deck has is just absurd. And Meteonis is very OP, Ritual from GY, seriously? The Drytron can also activate their effects every turn, like all of them, as long as you have a Drytron/Ritual Monster in hand. Drytron also can make Twin Twister and Droplet almost have no cost due to how it doesn't matter whether the Drytrons are in your hand or GY
One thing about Drytron that gives me the reason to play it is, fun and hard to play (this is subjective). I dunno why but playing Drytron without Ultimateness is very fun, the amount of possibilities of plays you could make is what makes it fun, but is also hard to pilot. Misplays happened very often due to that multiple plays you could make. Sometimes it's just hard to tell on which plays is the best. None of your Combo is as Linear as Pure Swordsoul, it's always unique depending on your opening hand
Drytron may not have the power it used to have, but it's consistency is still unmatched
And as always, this is not the optimal build. This is just how I build the Deck according to my liking. You can play Scythe Lock with Dagda if you wish so, noone will stop you from abusing such broken card. Enjoy it while you can, before Konami touch it
