MUST-Get Master Duel Staples for ANY Deck!
Deck Primer
This is just a list of modern staples that everyone should craft in Master Duel. I only placed 1 card for each to make room, below this I will have the recommended copy counts that you can get away with. But first, some ground rules for the list.
Actually, there is only one. To qualify, a card has to see major use across many different kinds of decks. With that said, it would be easy for any experienced player to list off, for example; all of the best Rank 4 XYZ monsters, or all of the best floodgates. So, I hope you understand that I couldn't include all of that!
Welp, below is the card copy count. I will have a rating from 1 to 3 for each card. 3 being for the most necessary staples and 1 for the least relevant. Also may have explanations for some cards!

CARDS | COPIES | RATING | NOTE |
Maxx "C" | 3 | 3 | The single best monster hand trap ever printed. |
Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring | 3 | 3 | The most effective and common form of negation since 2017 when it was printed. |
Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion | 1 to 3 | 2 | Like Ash Blossom, but for the graveyard. It could never hurt to even run one of these in any of your decks if you have room. |
Ghost Sister & Spooky Dogwood | 1 to 3 | 2 | I think this card is funny. It's like Maxx "C" but the incentive not for the opponent to summon is you gaining LP every time instead of drawing cards. |
Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill | 1 to 3 | 2
Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit | 2 to 3 | 3
PSY-Framegear Gamma | 2 | 3
Nibiru, the Primal Being | 2 to 3 | 3 | A well-timed Nibiru is such a great way to make someone quit. |
Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju | 3 | 3 | *This one monster is representative of all "Kaiju" monsters* Gameciel is just the best one since it has the lowest ATK to give your opponent, but you can use any of the Kaijus. |
Danger! Bigfoot! | 1 to 3 | 1 | *This one monster is representative of all "Danger!" monsters* Free body and a potential draw (and a potential bad discard with many decks) makes it risky, so that's why it's importance level is 1. |
Droll & Lock Bird | 1 to 3 | 2 | |
D.D. Crow | 1 to 3 | 2 | |
Skull Meister | 2 to 3 | 3 | |
Effect Veiler | 1 to 3 | 2 | |
Dinowrestler Pankratops | 1 | 3 | Always a free special summon and a free destruction effect if you want. |
Artifact Scythe | 1 to 3 | 2 | This spot is also for Artifact Lancea since both of these cards are the best effects of their archetypes. |
Denko Sekka | 1 to 3 | 1 | |
PSY-Frame Driver | 2 | 3 | Negate a hand trap, plus free Synchro Summon if on your turn. |
Raigeki | 1 | 3 | Still good to use if you don't like the drawbacks of Lightning Storm and Evenly Matched. |
Harpie's Feather Duster | 1 | 3 | Still good to use if you don't like the drawbacks of Lightning Storm and Evenly Matched. |
Lightning Storm | 2 to 3 | 3 | |
Twin Twisters | 2 to 3 | 3 | |
Galaxy Cyclone | 2 to 3 | 3 | |
Cosmic Cyclone | 3 | 3 | |
Terraforming | 1 | 1 | One of the few cards on the list that doesn't apply to every deck, however field spells are a big part of the game and eventually as your deck count grows you may want this. |
Reinforcement of the Army | 1 | 1 | Another card you may want for the future, plus warriors are one of the most populous monster types in the game. |
Upstart Goblin | 3 | 3 | At 1 copy in the TCG for good reason. This is the least risky draw spell. |
One Day of Peace | 1 | 3 | |
Pot of Avarice | 3 | 3 | |
Pot of Desires | 3 | 3 | Depends on the deck you're using if Desires or Extravagance + Prosperity is the better pick. |
Pot of Extravagance | 3 | 3 | |
Pot of Prosperity | 3 | 3 | |
Triple Tactics Talent | 1 to 3 | 3 | This doesn't always come up, but when it does it is extremely good. |
Dark Ruler No More | 2 to 3 | 3
Forbidden Droplet | 3 | 3 | |
Called by the Grave | 2 | 3 | |
Crossout Designator | 3 | 3
Foolish Burial | 1 | 1 | Another card you might only want eventually. |
Pre-Preparation of Rites | 3 | 1 | Pretty much this and Advanced Ritual Art are the only necessary inclusions in any Ritual based deck. |
Advanced Ritual Art | 3 | 1 | |
Super Polymerization | 2 | 1 | The only necessary inclusion in any Fusion based deck. |
Instant Fusion | 1 | 1 | This and Ready Fusion are good for normal decks that want an extra material for a big play. |
Ready Fusion | 3 | 1 | |
Scapegoat | 1 to 3 | 1 | Can help with Link plays. |
Evenly Matched | 3 | 3 | |
Heavy Storm Duster | 2 to 3 | 3 | Since it's a trap, it can get around problems like Imperial Order in tandom with Skill Drain which I think is important. |
Metaverse | 1 | 1 | |
Reckless Greed | 1 to 3 | 1 | Draw spells are a lot better than they used to be. |
Infinite Impermanence | 3 | 3
Ice Dragon's Prison | 3 | 3 | |
Solemn Judgment | 1 to 3 | 3 | |
Solemn Warning | 1 to 3 | 3 | |
Solemn Strike | 3 | 3 | See, if you have 3 of these, then your need for Judgment and Warning is less. But you could add 3 Strike and 1 of each of the others for a really powerful counter trap lineup. |
Red Reboot | 1 | 2 | |
Vanity's Emptiness | 1 | 2 | |
Ultimate Providence | 2 to 3 | 2 | This like Invoked Mechaba at spell speed 3, but without a guaranteed monster in your hand. |
Wall of Revealing Light | 1 | 1
Gravedigger's Trap Hole | 2 to 3 | 1 | Another counter to hand traps that are monsters, if Called by the Grave and Crossout Designator aren't enough. |
Skill Drain | 3 | 2 | Best if you have a good board setup and your opponent doesn't. |
Imperial Order | 1 | 2 | |
Elder Entity N'tss | 1 | 1 | Probably the best Instant Fusion target. |
Borreload Savage Dragon | 1 | 2 | Included some of the best Synchro monsters in the game, just in case you get decks that can play them. |
PSY-Framelord Omega | 1 | 2
Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier | 1 | 2
Daigusto Emeral | 1 | 2 | Yes, I did include a few Rank 4 monsters, but I encourage anyone to look up all the good ones in Master Duel if you want a wide pick of all the Rank 4 XYZ staples. |
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder | 1 | 3
Accesscode Talker | 1 | 3 | |
Borrelsword Dragon | 1 | 2 | |
Black Luster Soldier - Soldier of Chaos | 1 | 2
Predaplant Verte Anaconda | 1 | 2
Apollousa, Bow of the Goddess | 1 | 3
I:P Masquerena | 1 | 2 | |
Crystron Halqifibrax | 1 | 2
Rasterliger | 1 | 2 | |
Linkuriboh | 1 to 2 | 3 | |
Stardust Dragon | 1 to 2 unless you want to play Malefics | 3
Baronne de Fleur | 1 | 2 | |
Scarlight Red Dragon Archfiend | 1 | 2
Beelze of the Diabolic Dragons | 1 | 2
T.G. Hyper Librarian | 1 | 2
Chaos Ruler, the Chaotic Magical Dragon | 1 | 2
Steelswarm Roach | 1 to 2 | 2
Number 59: Crooked Cook | 1 to 2 | 2
Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon | 1 to 2 | 2 | The potential highest ATK Rank 4 in the game if that's what you want. |
Kachi Kochi Dragon | 1 to 2 | 2
Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy | 1 to 2 | 2
Number 97: Draglubion | 1 to 2 | 2
Number 11: Big Eye | 1 | 1 | After Rank 4 and 8, 7 might be the most commonly played XYZ Rank, along with 10 and 3. |
Dimensional Barrier | 2 to 3 | 2 | When is the errata to include Link monsters? |
Wiretap | 2 to 3 | 2 | Pretty versatile. |
