It's been a few weeks since Predaplant Verte Anaconda has left us in the TCG. Today we'll be looking at our Link-2 friend from an angle of both grief and loss.

I know this article is supposed to be light hearted and subjective, but I think the "Depression" part of this is kinda questionable.
Obviously it really sucks when your favourite archetype suddenly gets gutted, but the fact is you can't base your banlist around the rogue-tier decks. To see why just imagine if Pot of Greed suddenly comes off the banlist. Your favourite rogue-tier deck might become viable, and Pot of Greed might turn into "the glue that holds decks together". But this doesn't change the fact that top-tier decks are going to abuse the living hell of out Pot of Greed, and the game will become stale for everyone because everyone will run it. Everyone having it is way worse than no one having it.
For Beetroopers and similar decks if your list really does rely on DPE to function, then perhaps you're not really playing a Beetrooper list, you're playing a suboptimal DPE deck. DPE was a way for top-tier decks to keep playing through many pieces of interruption, then finally when they're out of options, shitting out a DPE with two random things they had left on field. It probably says more about your own decklist if DPE was the glue that held it together when for other top-tier decks it was a backup plan card or "just another engine".
Subjectively speaking now while I think Mystic Mine is not very fun to play against, you can't say just because one degenerate card exists then DPE deserves to exist too.

I have to be honest I like the article but beetrooper is still plenty playable without verte and, you can just use fusion destiny at 2 in the deck. Plus verte and DPE were really backups for beetrooper it did make the deck more playable but it's still fine on it's own.
Also verte died because if they killed DPE then dragoon would have become the number 1 again which wouldn't have really solved anything.
Also jet synchron making the scythe lock possible isn't really correct because you could still do it with dagda, halq and, plaguespreader zombie.
Verte was definitely a hit to a lot of decks but most decks abused it as a backup engine and, if konami ever wants to release any other broken fusions they have to worry about rather or not verte can abuse it.
An example is dragoon he's perfectly balanced with red-eyes fusion because the spell card prevents you from doing shit else the rest of the turn but with verte it didn't matter.
Also verte died because if they killed DPE then dragoon would have become the number 1 again which wouldn't have really solved anything.

This debate is related to the Evolution of the game:
The Main Deck is basically an engine for the extra deck. Is gear to get to the extra cards that are the ones who will put your game forward and make you win the match, it's your win condition. The problem is that we have a lot of generic extra deck monsters that generate summon and, as a consequence, the deck has a very high game volume, usually you arrive in a FTK field and your combo is very immune to Hand Trap.
Styles of cards that from Extra Decks that end up in the Banlist: have the characteristic of generating extra summons or several, are extremely generic (surpass the archetype) like all Links banned, give Burn and are used in FTK or generate Token.
I've already had a debate with myself about the problem of generic in-game links based on everything I've seen from content creators on this topic:
- if you look at the history of the latest konami banlists, most of the recent monsters banned were Links and that just goes to show how troublesome these cards can be if not properly restricted.
- Link-3 we have two examples: Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty and Mecha Phantom Beast Auroradon.
- only of problematic Link-2 we have several examples: Heavymetalfoes Electrumite, Union Carrier, Predaplant Verte Anaconda.
- Link-1 also has a lot of idiot cards to name: Linkross, Guardragon Elpy and Prank-Kids Meow-Meow-Mu.
Not to mention the Link-2 enablers that have been a problem since they were released or could be a problem again someday:
- Crystron Halqifibrax is the card I hate the most in this game, this stupid company has already banned and messed with a lot of tuner monsters in the game just to keep this toxic card in the game and it didn't help, he continues to be the best Link monsters in the history of game, I consider it more broken than Firewall Dragon.
- Other examples: Isolde and Jasmine never had a deck that made her be seen as an urgent problem to solve but has the ability to do massive damage when that happens.

I personally have found cards like Verte and Halq to be intentional destroyers of the game that both completely warp the meta and make it so expensive as to not be able to afford to play as is. Being generic is always a fear for some cards, after all generic means any deck can play it and as such can make good better and great unbeatable. That's why some of the more generic cards of the game have basic or sub-par effects to make them just "ok", a good example being the Knightmare cards which have all seen consistent play but have never broken the game. There have been plenty of ludicrous cards printed that have had the potential to be insane if they were more generic or didn't lock you out of other play options (Flower Cardian, Ursartic Radiation, T.G. Trident Launcher, etc.) The moniker of a good card that can change but not destroy the meta would be cards that make you have to respect their existence but not play you're entire game plan around them (Underworld Goddess, The Zombie Vampire, Dharc The Dark Charmer Gloomy, Red Reboot, etc.)
While I do feel rouge/no tier decks should get some generic help to make them good, I don't think it should be so overwhelmingly good and assessible that any deck can use it and abuse it to become unbeatable.

I'd agree with your point on Knightmares but.. there was a portion of time where nearly every deck ran knightmare mermaid and goblin because it was full orcust combo. those 2 cards made an ARCHETYPE generic and are banned for a very good reason.
